Being Thankful...Always.

It has been quite a time here at the B household since I last posted. When I decided to take away Jack's pacifier, he in turn decided to get a cold. It wasn't anything major at first, but after about a week the "cold" just went from "a runny nose", to "what happened!?" He got a horrible ear infection, fever and cough...and his nose turned into Niagra Falls, which in turn chapped his cheeks and made his nose so sore it bled. The poor kid didn't sleep for two weeks.

I am happy to say I never gave in to the pacifier. Oh, I wanted to, but every time I was tempted I just told myself that it would get better. That he wouldn't be able to breathe with that thing in his mouth anyway.

I found myself very stressed during the day because he was just plain sick and tired. Oh, the sleep deprivation we endured. But the stress also came from that being able to do much to console him. I think whether he knew it or not, he wanted that pacifier to comfort him.

So it has been a rough two weeks, but we got through it. He still cries when I lay him down, but not for too long anymore, and that too shall pass.

The whole reason I wanted to write this post is to share a verse that saved me this last week:

"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
  • Rejoice Always. Always. There is always something positive to shift our focus on, and wow does that help!
  • Pray Continually. Yep, that means all the time.
  • Give Thanks in every situation you are in. What a great reminder! There was so much to be thankful for even with Jack being so upset (a.k.a. crying a lot!)
Thank you that I get to be home to take care of my sick child. Thank you he isn't more sick. Thank you that I have a husband that is at home during the day so I can take a nap. Thank you that my two older boys are so good for me. Thank you that one little verse can mean so much. Thank you Lord, you are so good, even when life isn't that great.

This is totally a coincidence that this is being written less than a week before Thanksgiving. :) But maybe it's a perfect verse for others to meditate this week, and always. Always.

Bye Bye Binky

Well, after spending the last year of my life "repacifying" my child in the middle of the night, enough is enough! The pacifier MUST GO. It was nothing other than pure and utter frustration that motivated me to "just do it already!" We are only on day two but I am so glad I have one and a half days under my belt. There is no turning back now!

Day one was rough. It doesn't help that the poor guy has a cough/cold. I almost used this as an excuse not to do it, but it seems like there is ALWAYS an excuse, so I wouldn't let it sway me from what I needed to accomplish. We both need a full night's sleep. I couldn't be sidetracked my a runny nose. He was pretty grumpy all day yesterday, but we got through it. He slept decent last night (decent for him) and he is a much happier boy today. I have heard that he will forget about the binky sooner than I think, and I hope that is true.

I do see us being a binky-free family in the future and this has been a long time coming. This may be such a boring post to read but it consumes me, therefore for today, consumes my blog. :)

Finally, a BLOG!

My name is Jenn and I am finally taking the plunge into blogging. I am hoping that blogging will be a  fun and motivating way of making these memories of my life as a stay at home mom last.

About Us:

Jenn :: Graphic Designer turned Work At Home Mom and eventually Stay At Home. I’d love to earn some extra money again but who has the time with these kids? I don’t want to wear myself too thin, so for now I am just enjoying making a home for my family and taking care of everyone. I also love to cook so I am sure I will post recipes now and then. I love to try new things, but promise I will only share the very successful recipes. ;)

Jason :: Amazing husband and father. We’ve known each other since I was 15. Dated in high school and separated while we were both in college. I started dating him again my Sr. year in college and moved here to be with him after that. The rest is history I guess!

Tyson (7 next month, gasp!) :: Such a smart and funny boy. He is sensitive like his mommy and can get his feelings hurt pretty easily but he also goes with the flow. Transitioning to all day/every day school was no big deal for either Tyson or Dylan, which is a perfect example of this personality trait. They definitely get that from their father! Tyson loves to read and play Webkinz online. He is fascinated w/ anything creepy/crawly: Bugs, snakes, reptiles, etc. Loves non-fiction too. He just loves to learn and is always asking questions about anything and everything. He also likes to play typical school yard games: Dodgeball, Kickball, Tag, etc. Ty is extremely good as far as being obedient, I think part of it is his personality and part of it is his age. He listens really well and is a great helper!

Dylan (4) :: Smiley, goofy, happy-go-lucky, cuddly. He is more stubborn than his older brother and likes to ignore his mother’s requests until I ask him three times. That seems to be the magic number these days. Sigh. Again, this is part age/part personality. I continue to adore his blonde hair and bright blue eyes. He started all day preschool two days a week this year at Tyson’s school. He also rides the bus to school with Tyson which was a big hurdle for me, and he was fine with it. He loves playing with cars and always has. He recently decided that riding a bike IS fun (he refused to pedal for the LONGEST time). So he asked to ride his bike every single day. I have a feeling we will be doing some bike riding in the basement this winter.

The boys play really well together, which is so nice and helps a lot! Dylan just said the other day that what he loves about Tyson is that he comes up with games for them to play together. It was pretty cute and melted my heart to see that he appreciates Tyson for that. Don't get me wrong, the fight like crazy too, about the silliest things!

Jack (17 months) :: I could go on and on but I guess most people will understand when I say he is a typical “third child”. Gets into everything, likes to defy me constantly. Let’s just put it out there, he’s naughty to the core.  Okay it’s maybe not that bad. I will also say he is adorable and so much fun to play with. A huge mama's boy. He has started talking more and more which is fun. I’d say he can say about 20 or so words. I haven’t written them out and need to do that.
